Finca La Fany is a legacy of excellence that spans generations. Nestled in the Apaneca-Illamatepec mountain range of El Salvador, this family farm sits at 1,500 meters above sea level just outside the town of Apaneca. Originally established in the early 1900s by Fabio Morán and later revitalized by Rafael and Carmen Silva in the 1990s, La Fany has long held a reputation for exceptional quality and innovation in coffee cultivation.
One of the proudest moments for the Silva family came in 2005, when La Fany’s Red Bourbon placed 4th in the Cup of Excellence, a prestigious recognition that affirmed the farm’s commitment to producing outstanding coffee.
The Silvas’ stewardship of the land is defined by a commitment to sustainability and community. They’ve implemented ecological practices like vermicomposting—using earthworms to transform coffee cherry pulp into nutrient-rich fertilizer that nourishes both the soil and plants. Their approach combines time-honored tradition with forward-thinking experimentation, planting new varietals like Pacamara, Geisha, and Yellow Caturra alongside their classic Red Bourbon.
From soil to harvest, every step at La Fany is a reflection of care—for the coffee, for the workers, and for the surrounding community.
Roaster’s Reserve: Curated by Marie Marsh
This offering is part of our Roaster’s Reserve series—a curated selection of coffees personally sourced and fine-tuned by our head roaster, Marie Marsh. Finca La Fany marks the first coffee Marie chose with full creative control, dialing in the roast to highlight the farm’s vibrant citrus, creamy texture, and balanced almond finish. It’s a coffee she selected specifically for Bear Coast, and we’re proud to share it with you.
As a final touch, Marie personally signs each bag and marks it with the roast date, bringing her signature and care to every step of the journey—from crop to cup.
