The involvement women have had in the creation of Bear Coast as a community and a success is unparalleled.
This is a coffee that was grown by amazing women.
Will be served in a cafe led by a team of amazing women.
And has a label designed to celebrate how much we love and will miss an amazing woman.
Cassidy is on the bag due to her being one of the strongest leaders and women I know... and 10% of the sales of each of these bags will be donated directly to STEM programs to help make sure more young women out there grow up to be like Cass.
(STEM = SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, MATH)
Women have been fundamental to our story. Jenna Ross, Roxy, Gabs, Camille, Taylor, and countless other women have been the leaders and the rockstars of this coffee company's growth.
This past month our long-time manager of the San Clemente store, Cassidy, found out that her goal of being a teacher was finally becoming a reality.  Her student teaching began last week, and she is on her way to inspire more kids to fall in love with science like her mom did for her.
Cass and Jenna (former manager of the Dana Point Store) have affectionately been referred to as the MOMagers of Bear Coast. Due to their legacy of growing teams from nothing and running them like a family.  Now with Jenna on the East Coast, and Cassidy teaching... an era has come to an end.
It was beyond serendipitous that Cassidy's leaving to teach coincided with the arrival of this amazing coffee from a blend of women farmers in Guatemala.
So we will miss you Cassidy, but this coffee is inspired by you!

For more than a decade we've cultivated deep relationships with a few women farm owners around our home in Huehuetenango. For decades producers like Ana Maria Ortega and Paty Perez have shown us the special strength, resiliency, and generosity of women in key leadership roles at the farm level.

Across Guatemala, women are the majority labor force on coffee farms, from picking to export. And around the world women comprise up to 70% of farm work while owning disproportionately few assets and land. Despite limited access, discrimination and violence, many women have forged their own paths for their families through their coffee farms. As part of our initiative to diversify our sourcing, provide market access, and highlight the stories of powerful women, we bring you ELLA - Women Producers of Guatemala.

Through our QC Lab in Guatemala City, we're expanding our reach while doing due diligence necessary to invest in long-term partnerships empowering more women producers. As we find outstanding farms in sync with our ethos, we'll begin to feature them singularly, such as Doña Sofia from Finca Armenia Lorena. The ELLA blend will be a curation of women-produced lots we're onboarding, with a crowd-pleasing brown sugary sweetness, full creamy body, orange and light tropical fruits.
