Over 200 households deliver their coffee cherries to the Muhororo washing station where the fruit is floated to sort out the high density coffee. After floating, the cherries are dried on raised beds for 4 to 6 weeks with constant hand sorting and rotating.
The primary goal of Muhororo is to deliver extremely high quality coffee to roasters, while investing in the local community and social development projects. Your purchase of this coffee helps fund the Rugori community and social welfare problems focused on providing health care, child care and livestock for those working at the Muhororo washing station.
Leadership at the Muhororo washing station has created a community devoted to the welfare of the surrounding coffee farms. Donating 4,000 new coffee trees each year and growing their local economy through livestock. By purchasing and donating pigs, the animals can yield two piglets each year to be redistributed in the community. The next goal is to construct a daycare facility at the Muhororo station to provide a safe place for children while their parents are occupied with demanding harvest and processing work. The space will also provide basic healthcare and education services.
